The Fringe Website said 185 free shows in
2007... then the page was taken down!

The Times Monday July 30 2007. In an article by Mike Wade titled '33,609
shows and six days to go; let the party begin' quoted 33,609 performances
in 250 venues and the number of free shows was increased to 304. In
addition 250,000 tickets are said to have been sold ahead of the event.

Not part of the Fringe but identified with it anyway, since the days
they ran concurrently. Free if you stand in the street or find some
other high point with a view, usually Calton Hill. If it rains and
there is low cloud you may see very little but on a clear night it
